  6. Abbott Laboratories In August 2003, Abbott announced that it would spin off as a separate company its hospital products business. The new company will have sales of $2.4 billion. Spin off will allow the company to more aggressively focus on the development and sale of products for the hospital market. Completion of the spin off was April 2004. The new company is Hospira.
