  1. Air Pollution By: Syed Alam

  2. What is Pollution? Many people think pollution is a harmful gas that goes into the air. That is right and wrong. Pollution can be many things, including noise and chemical waste.

  3. What is Pollution? • The presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance or thing that has harmful or poisonous effects. http://www.google.com/ • Pollution is the introduction of a contaminant into the environment. http://www.greenstudentu.com/encyclopedia/pollution • Pollution means any contamination of air, soil, water and environment. Why, even loud noise and sound are also a part of pollution. http://www.pediatriconcall.com/kidscorner/whywhat/what_is_pollution.aspx

  4. Why? • 40 % of the world’s deaths can be linked to pollution. • They cause health disorders. • * In China, pollution cased 1.2 million deaths in half a year. • Kids have to wear face masks to protect themselves. • Most schools in china cancelled outdoor activities and field trips because of pollution.

  5. Examples • Carbon Dioxide gets into the air • Nitrogen gets into the air as well • Smoke from chimneys and fireplaces

  6. When did this become a problem? Pollution became a problem in the eastern hemisphere ever since the “made in China” era started. Actually, 1 year after that. Most of Asia’s pollution starts from China. That pollution is then scattered to different places including Japan and even California! Nobody knows how they are to solve this problem, but it is spreading really fast. About 1.3 million people die prematurely every year from pollution.

  7. Past This (technically) became a major problem since the “Made in China” era. It’s a long time ago. Ever since the factories started burning coal to produce whatever they produced, the smoke traveled around the world! It spread to lots of other places. But pollution didn’t become a problem just because of china. Other countries have lots of cars to produce carbon dioxide. Plus other factories.

  8. Present Pollution is a problem almost 2/3 of the world! Most countries have an air pollution problem everywhere. Even cooking can cause smoke into the air. The governments are trying to help but it is hard to help when almost everyone travels in a car or bus or bike almost every single day.

  9. Future? Governments are trying to help by producing electric cars to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide normal cars put into the air every day. They will also spend about 200 BILLION Yuan to try and lower pollution. But there is no telling when pollution will be fully stopped or if it will stop.

  11. Causes • We send out carbon dioxide and other chemical gasses when we drive or ride the car to places. • We send out carbon dioxide and other chemical gasses when we heat our homes. • We send out carbon dioxide and other chemical gasses when we produce in factories.

  12. Effects • Global Warming • Breathing problems • Abnormal climate change • Plants will die • Animals will die • Natural disasters will occur • Global Warming

  13. Who does this affect? Well, this problem basically affects everyone. It will affect you because you will probably get breathing problems. This will also affect you because you will have to pay for medical help if you do get problems. This affects animals, too because they will have problems as well. Pollution also causes global warming and the animals there are having trouble too.

  14. Where? Pollution is a problem in many countries in the eastern hemisphere. • Pollution is a problem in China. • Pollution is a problem in India. • Pollution is a problem in Kuwait. • Pollution is a problem in Iran. • Pollution is a problem in United Arab Emirates.

  15. Where? • Pollution is also a problem in Nigeria. • Pollution is also a problem in Egypt. • Pollution is also a problem in Saudi Arabia. • Pollution is also a problem in Senegal. • Pollution is also a problem in Pakistan. • Pollution is also a problem in Botswana. • Pollution is also a problem in Mongolia.

  20. Why these places? It is a problem in these countries especially because of the pollution spreading. Like I said before, much of China’s pollution spreads to countries that are close to it. Which is basically most of Asia.

  21. Beijing on a clear day The next day

  22. Government Involvement • The government has to pay for the safety of the people. • The government has to help the people with warnings and ads on TV which will probably cost millions of dollars. • The unemployment rate will be greater and the government won’t get enough money • China’s government’s Air Quality Index (AQI) is 20 YEARS out of date!

  23. Economic Involvement • Money will be spent on safety of the people • Money will be spent on advertisements about air pollution • Money will be spent on warnings of air pollution • Almost 4 trillion Yuan has been spent to solve pollution problems • Spent 700 billion Yuan just on air pollution

  24. Other Facts China’s government still cares though. They have spent 4 TRILLION Yuan ($650 BILLION) on all pollution problems. They spent 700 BILLION Yuan (112.41 BILLION) on just air pollution!

  25. Solutions? - People are campaigning against one of china’s biggest cause of air pollution: coal. • Petitions have been started to stop huge factories and to alert the government. • Petitions have been started to push the government into updating their Air Quality Objectives (AQO) • China’s AQO is 20 years out of date and far below World Health Organization’s (WHO) standards.

  26. My suggestions • Shut down the factories that are running, but don’t do anything • Use electric cars and trucks to lower the amount of carbon dioxide in the air • Ration the amount of busses and trains in the social cities • Plant as much trees as possible so they will take in the carbon in the air and will give out more oxygen

  28. Conclusion So, the problem is air pollution. It is mainly a problem in the eastern part of China. But this gradually spreads to different parts of the world. The causes are factories, cars, and smoke that sends CO2 into the air. The effects are dangerous such as breathing problems, death, and natural disasters. People have started protests to stop factories from causing pollution. I think this is good, but they should also ration the amount of busses and trains and also send out electric cars.
