  3. Introduction Nowadays, there is no objective discussion about the importance of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) for the development of economies of the developing countries and middle east region and even less about their labor skills.

  4. In our Agency, we emphasize on short-term policy development and longer-run capacity building to support the policy development process. Given the critical challenges currently facing SMEs, early action by the Academy of Scientific Research and technology in Egypt initiated improvement in work plan.

  5. Policy and development planning are thus the central axis of the Academy Project, around which other activities revolve: Training, Research and Networking activities are all designed to support the achievement of the Technology Development &Scientific services sector goals.

  6. The Areas Targeted by Technology Development & service sector for SMEs are: * Developing/updating a general policy framework for SMEs development in Egypt. * Developing operational definitions for SMEs.* Enhancing the access of SMEs to financial services.* Procurement* Regulatory reform to reduce the cost of compliance with regulations.* Promotion for SMEs

Major Axes of SFD Activities SFD operates according to several major axes based on: • Developing and financing small enterprises serving as feeding industries to medium and large enterprises in all governorates with a view to creating permanent and stable job opportunities, • Encouraging micro enterprises to improve income and ameliorate living standards in Egyptian villages and hamlets

  9. Marketing and Management Group • Enhancing the competitive edge of small enterprises, improving their quality and opening new markets for their products, • Financing and updating marketing studies and research, • Developing technology support and transfer systems,

  10. Training the youth in technical vocational training centers to promote their entrepreneurial skills, • Cooperating with different ministries and authorities to establish joint ventures with a view to employing the youth and generating new job opportunities,

Business & Technology Incubators What are Incubators Business and Technology Incubators are Development Institutions providing support to foster the growth of start-up and early stage enterprises, and generally improve their chances of success in an increasingly competitive global environment.

  12. Mission and Objectives of the Incubator • To provide Assistant to the projects inside and outside the Incubator premises. • Develop Business skills and Managerial efficiency

  13. Assist the Entrepreneurs in obtaining all the necessary permission and licenses before start-up • Create new job opportunities (permanent/ non permanent and direct/indirect). • To link small Entrepreneurial companies to medium and large organizations/ companies in order to develop their activities (feeding industries)

  14. Adapt the projects based on technology which are related to Universities and Scientific research centers to Convert their researches to Marketable products • Offer a full package of assistant such as (Quality Control Units/ Special Specifications/ Technical and commercial Data base)

  15. Administrative Assistance • Business plan, day to day managerial Skills training, Secretarial works, Fax, Computer, Internet … etc.) • Technical Assistant • Specialized local and global Consultants, Product quality Control labs, Technical training … etc.)

  16. Financial Assistance • SFD Loans, Feasibility Studies, Balance Sheets, . etc Marketing Assistance Exhibitions and Advertisements

  17. Types of Incubators1-General Incubators Promote formation of new Enterprises based on a local environment needs. 2-Technology Incubators Promote the development of new Enterprises taking advantage of the influence such as (universities, Institution, Science parks etc.)

  18. 3- Specialized Incubators They focus on a specific field or sub sector (i.e biotechnology, information technology)

  21. IIDA encourages and promotes innovations and inventions aiming at pushing forward process of developing national technology . • IIDA cooperates with the patent office in that the later provides it with granted patents to be commercialized to reach the final end user .

IIDA makes and develops the prototypes of selected patents .In addition to this , it carries out semi - industrial experiment . • IIDA highlights the advantages of valid innovations and inventions . It contacts the industrial institutions and others to define how far they can benefit from them and the possibilities of commercializing .
