Warm up 04-10-14 • Question: Which of Newton’s 3 Laws explains the thrust of a rocket? • Answer: • 3rd law – action, reaction. • Goal: I will learn about rockets.
Element of the day • 89 – Actinium – Ac • Actinium is the first of the actinides, which (much like the lanthanides) have similar chemical properties because their additional electrons are stored in inner shells, so they have the same valence electrons. • Actinium has a half-life of 21.8 years, and is so radioactive that it glows on its own. It occurs naturally in uranium ore, but in such small quantities that if you wanted some, you’d make it in a nuclear reactor by bombarding radium atoms with neutrons.
Warm up • Soda bottle last call • NASA Rocket page (44) • Tonight’s HW • Rocket Build Tomorrow! • ALL LATE WORK Agenda / HW
