    1. Workshop on the harmonisation of information for Poison Centers, CLP Art 45 24 November 2010 Niek Wetser

    2. Agenda Why Poison Information Centers? Views of the Paint Industry. Proposal.

    3. Why Poison Information Centers? Gives advice to medical response personnel for accidental exposure to chemicals Single source data base available 24/7

    4. Views of the Paint Industry We support the PIC concept Concerns: Administrative burden. Notification per member state. Different set of rules per member state. In some states you can submit PDF files, while in other states you need to fill in a web application per product. This differs from 1 to 15 minutes per product. Maintaining data in all different systems. Formulations can change yearly. Legislation generally changes every year

    5. Views of the Paint Industry Restricted disclosure of intellectual property Safe storage of data has to be guaranteed, as described in article 45.2a and b of CLP. We do not have the complete breakdown of all raw materials at hand We want to keep the Frame formulation concept for a group of products Color mixing systems at point of sale can create up to 10.000 colors (formulations).

    6. Proposal Data only from existing reports Delivery of SDS sheets Section 3 for hazardous substances. REACh discloses more data. More data can be provided directly In case of non-emergency, more detailed data may be needed by the physician. This is to be provided directly from the company.

    7. Proposal One European data base at ECHA Upload and store all documents in one EU data base. Data requested by PIC via secure data line.

    8. Proposal CEPE would like to stay an active participant in the discussion. We know in detail what our industry can do, without raising the administrative burden.
