History • 1775: USACE founded during the Revolutionary War • 1824: Civil Works mission to improve river navigation • 1920’s: Hydropower design work started. • 1948: HDC to support new projects in Columbia river basin • 1993: HDC established as National Center of Expertise
HDC Mission • Nationwide center of expertise for USACE hydropower. • Design Center with a concentration of mechanical & electrical engineers. • Provide technical support to the project & district offices.
HDC Organization Director & Tech Services Staff - 12 Staff - 27 Staff - 22 incl. 3 in HDC Forward Staff - 19 26 Mech + 24 Elec + 5 Struct + 14 Tech + 11 Other = 80
Rehabilitation Program • Many powerhouses in operation over 40 years • Major breakdowns increasing • Rehabilitation program established • HDC gets heavily involved as a resource of mechanical & electrical expertise in the major components.
