Enhance language skills through interactive literacy charts & activities. Build vocabulary, make observations, ask questions, make connections, and relate to the text. Encourage students to engage with the text while developing reading comprehension.

Chart 1 Vocabulary • Choose approximately 5 vocabulary words • Write words on the chart in the order that they appear in the book. Be sure to be selective with words. • As you come across one of the words in the reading students can give you a thumbs up. • After reading the text go back and reread the word and the context it was used in. Ask students to define the word based on context clues or word structure. • If students are struggling go back to the text and help students identify the context clues that help in determining meaning. Scaffold students in determining meaning.
