  1. Northern Kentucky Horse Network’s mission is to enrich our horse industry and community, to “promote, protect and educate.”

  2. History of NKHN • First formed as a Horse Muck Committee as part of the Northern Kentucky Agriculture Water Quality Committee • This committee created educational programs, on farm demonstrations and field days associated with horse waste management

  3. History • May 2006 the Extension Services and the Conservation Districts from Boone, Kenton and Campbell invited leaders to discuss equine industry needs • Regular meetings of this group led to the formation of the Northern Kentucky Horse Network

  4. History • Fall 2006 the NKHN met with representatives of the Kentucky Horse Council and Kentucky Equine Education Project (KEEP) • Received a start up grant from (KEEP) to launch NKHN • Fall 2006 working group embarked on the final draft of by laws, mission statement, vision, and short term goals • Three member from Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties were selected to serve on first years. Board of Directors

  5. Our vision • Encourage Northern Kentucky region to become a model equine community for all disciplines and breeds • To protect the horse population

  6. Our vision • To provide equine recreational opportunities • To encourage sound management practices • To promote agri-tourism and the interests of the local horse industry

  7. Goals • Develop an equine mailing list for all northern Kentucky counties • Expand to include Pendleton, Grant, Owen, Carroll, Gallatin and Bracken counties

  8. Goals • Introduce NKHN to the community and promote general membership • Support “In Kentucky, Every Horse Counts” survey • Organize NKHN general meetings

  9. Goals • Develop equine educational programs and activities (Pasture Management, Horse College, 4-H Youth Programs, farm field days, etc.)

  10. By the numbers. . . 198 Members of NKHN 79 from Campbell County 51 from Kenton County 43 from Boone County Remaining 25 from Kentucky counties, Pendleton, Grant, Gallatin, Robertson, Bourbon, Fayette, and Hamilton County Ohio

  11. NKHN Accomplishments • Hosted 3 NKHN Kick Off Meetings in NKY • Supported “In KY, Horses Count Survey” • Developed Mailing List • Quarterly Newsletters • Developed our website www.nkyhorsenetwork.com

  12. NKHN Accomplishments • Presented Educational Programs based on survey results from the NKHN general membership • Sponsored our first trail ride • Held monthly board meetings • Began committee work on different areas
