  2. Love is the glue that binds a family together. Unfortunately, love is not enough to keep the family from fighting. Sometimes trivial matters become complicated. Sometimes couples get divorced, some siblings might not agree on the division of property or wills. In some cases, hiring a family attorney to solve the matter becomes necessary. Family law focuses mainly on solving family issues like marriages, divorces, adoption, child custody, child support, etc. The attorney can also represent the client in court if an out-of-court settlement is impossible.   3. Following Instructions: The family lawyer should listen to the client and follow instructions. The family lawyer should ask the client what he wants to do with his legal problem. The family lawyer should honor the wish of the client to either settle outside or go to court. The client needs to be completely honest with the lawyer. A lawyer can provide correct advice only when he has the exact details of the issue. The lawyer tries to present multiple solutions to a client’s problem. The client has to choose among the options. The lawyer might ask for time to carry out some research about the case. The client should inform the lawyer if he does not understand the lawyer clearly. The lawyer, however, has the right to refuse to carry out the client’s instructions if they are against the law.

  4. Confidentiality: The matters of the family should remain within the family. If a lawyer is appointed, all the information given to him must remain confidential. The lawyer has no right to discuss the matter with a third party without your consent. The lawyer is bound to keep your information a secret unless it becomes necessary to share the information. Avoid any conflict of interest: A lawyer should be honest with the client. He should not represent the client if there is any conflict of interest.

There are three conditions where a lawyer cannot work for you: • If the lawyer has represented any other party or has confidential information about a person involved in that case. • If the lawyer is already acting on behalf of someone, then the lawyer cannot represent a new client. • If the interest of the lawyer and client clash. The relationship between a client and lawyer is based on trust. If either of the parties becomes aware of any conflict of interest they should communicate it to the other. 

  6. Effective Communication: A client should be given updates at regular intervals. A lawyer must explain the proceedings and other details of the case efficiently to his client.
