Major Findings Harriet Tubman moved slaves through and underground channel of tunnels and safe houses which allowed African American women to escape to the North and subsequently letting the Union know Confederate secrets and which move they were going to make next . Mary Elizabeth Bower served as a maid in the Confederate White House and ignored while important conversations and passed along information to the Union .Sarah Edmonds disguised herself as a man to serve in the Union Armey to spy on Confederate troops.

  9. Major Findings Sojourner Truth helped raised food and clothes during the Civil War for the black regiments in the Union enabling them to go further away from their life lines which made it much easier to capture Confederate landings .

Research Challenges and Lessons Learned Challenges Lessons Learned • Many of the documents were all primary documents • I had to travel a lot because a lot of the documents were held in different places • Both major figures are well known had to work angles that would not bore the audience or be repetitive • Maryland played a very large role in the Underground Railroad as a mid way point • That you have to be willing to learn how to handle theses primary documents • Reading is a key point • When looking for information don’t be opposed to reading old newspapers and diaries

  11. Questions Yet unanswered Are There More Women Out There That Supported The Union ? How Will These Other Key Figures Be Found ? Will I Need To Go To Many Other Archival Sites To Find Out My Additional Information ?
