  2. Rule 1 • Conduct yourself in a responsible manner at all times in the science classroom/lab. Horseplay, practical jokes and pranks are dangerous and prohibited.

  3. Rule 2 • Do not eat, drink or chew gum in lab. Never use lab glassware as containers for food or beverages.

  4. Rule 3 • Work areas should be kept clean and tidy at all times.

  5. Rule 4 • Wash hands with soap and water after performing labs.

  6. Rule 5 • Anytime heat, glassware or chemicals are used, students will wear safety goggles. Glasses are not a suitable substitute for safety goggles.

  7. Rule 6 • Report any accident (spill, breakage, etc.) or injury (cut, burn, etc.) to the instructor immediately, no matter how trivial it may appear. Also, please report any damaged or broken equipment to the instructor.

  8. Rule 7 • Do not touch, taste or smell any chemicals unless specifically instructed to do so.

  9. Rule 8 • Never remove chemicals or other materials from the lab area.

  10. Rule 9 • Never handle broken glass with your bare hands. Use a brush and dustpan to clean up broken glass and place in the designated glass disposal container.

  11. Rule 10 • When removing an electrical plug from its socket, grasp the plug, not the cord. Hands must be completely dry before touching an electrical switch, plug or outlet.

  12. Rule 11 • Any sharp objects must be carried by the handle with points and tips pointing down and away from the body. Be sure the use sharp instruments for their intended purpose only.

  13. Rule 12 • Lab setups that include bacteria and fungus should be in sealed containers once the initial setup is complete. These containers should NEVERbe opened during the study.

  14. Rule 13 • In the event of a fire drill, turn off all electrical equipment before leaving the room.

  15. Rule 14 • Follow all written and verbal instructions carefully. Perform only those lab activities assigned by your teacher. • Science Lab Safety Rules.flv
