  1. How to Select the Right Forklift?

  2. Forklifts are an integral part of many businesses. They are mainly used for lifting and moving heavy packages or items safely. They come in a wide range of sizes and with varying features. Are you thinking of purchasing a forklift for your business? There are several factors you will need to consider.

  3. The guide below will help to ensure that you purchase a forklift with the right features to meet your specific needs. Capacity This is one of the most crucial features when deciding what type of new forklift to purchase. These machines are rated according to their capacity. You need to know the dimensions and weight of the loads you are likely to be using the forklift to move and lift. Use the maximum loads to determine the maximum capacity you need in your forklift.

  4. Load center This is the distance from the center of gravity of the load being carried to the sides of the load. This ensures that the load can balance evenly on the forklift while being carried or moved. The most common load centers are 500, 600 and 1200 mm. The load center determines the size of the forklift your purchase.

  5. Size Consider the space within which you will be working. If you’ll be working indoors for example, you may have limited room within which to safely operate your forklift. You should purchase a forklift that can be safely operated within the space available.

  6. Height Consider what you will be using the forklift for. If you will need to lift loads to high levels, consider the height you will be lifting to. This will help you determine the height of the forklift you purchase.

  7. Tyres There are different types of tyres that can be fitted onto forklifts depending on their specific application. There three main types of tyres to choose from: Cushion tyres: These are suitable for indoor use. They are usually fitted on electric forklifts. They are non-marking and are therefore suitable for use in warehouses and other indoor areas. Pneumatic tyres: These have compressed air. They are suitable for outdoor use. They are usually fitted on forklifts designed for operation on uneven surfaces. Solid pneumatic tyres: These are made of solid rubber and are suitable for use on rough terrains. They are designed for heavy duty applications. They are very durable.

  8. Fuel type Different forklifts are designed to use different types of fuel including electric forklifts, gas, LPG / petrol, diesel forklifts and dual fuel options. It is important to consider the cost of each type and determine the best forklift for you.

  9. There are many other factors to consider including the price when considering the forklift to purchase. Considering the above factors will help you determine the best solution for your business.
