  2. The school was founded in 1939 by a man called Sir Ifan ab Owen Edwards, who was determined to have a Welsh school in Aberystwyth. The school was the first ever Welsh language school in Wales. This is Sir Ifan ab Owen Edwards At the moment there are just over 400 pupils in the school, over 65% of these pupils come from a Welsh speaking background while the rest come from an English or mixed background. 65% 35% Welsh background English or mixed background

  3. Here are some of the subjects we learn here at YsgolGymraeg: • Welsh • Maths • English • Science • Physical Education • Language with Mr James • Current Affairs with Mrs Lloyd • Comenius project with Mrs Llwyd • Art with Mr Griffiths • History, Geography and Religious Education

  4. On a normal school day, lessons start at 9:30 and finish at 3:30. We have break time between 10:30-10:45. We have lunch from 12:00-1:00 and a final break at 2:15-2:30. You have a choice, either to bring in a lunch box or have a hot meal in school. We have four lessons a day, 20 a week. We have assembly on Monday and Wednesday 9:00-9:30.   6. URDD EISTEDDFOD MUSIC Sports Some times we have music lessons with Mr Morgan. Mr Morgan is the school choir teacher. In our music lessons we learn about famous musicians, mainly Welsh musicians, it’s very interesting! Every Friday we have a Physical Education lesson. It’s a lot of fun. Here is a list of some of the sports we do: Hockey, Football, Rugby, Netball, Dance, Gymnastics and Orienteering. Here is a picture of our school sports day, we are in our school teams Arthur, Caradog and Dewi. The Urdd Eisteddfod is a Welsh competition that’s held once a year in Wales. It’s a lot of fun to compete and every age is welcome to join in across the country. Here are some of the competitions our school competes in: Choir, Creative dancing, Musical, Orchestra, Recitation group and various individual performances. Here is a picture of our school choir.

  7. Here is a picture of our own school Eisteddfod, which is held in the school hall every year around March 1st, St David’s Day, our national patron saint day. Our school teams compete against each other and it’s a lot of fun! We also have a Christmas and Summer Concert once a year which are held at the Great Hall in Aberystwyth.

School trips GLAN-LLYN CARDIFF We have many school trips every year including: A two night stay at the Urdd Camp at Glan-llyn near Bala in north Walesand a two night stay in Cardiff, our capital city. We also go on day trips to places like: Castell Henllys (an old Celtic fort), the National Library here in Aberystwyth, and the National Wool Museum. Everybody loves the school trips!
