  3. The Enrollment Process

General Timeline • Apply to Schools (September – November) • Financial aid in February/March (after acceptance) • May 1 Enrollment Deadline • May 1 begins class registration and housing process • June & July – Summer Orientations • August 16 – Fall 2012 Orientation (Move in) • August 20 – Fall 2012 Classes Begin

  5. Application Process • Materials needed to complete file • Application for Admission • online or paper application • Counselor report • Official high school transcript • ACT/SAT scores • Official college transcripts (even for PSEO) • Transfer Recommendation Form (only for transfer students)

  7. May 1 Deadline • $150 enrollment deposit to confirm your enrollment ($100 for enrollment and summer orientation, $50 for housing deposit) • Extensions are possible in 2-week increments • Refundable prior to May 1 with a written request prior to May 1 • Non-refundable May 1 onward

  8. Class Registration • Packets sent mid-April to all students who have confirmed enrollment • Forms completed and returned to with Summer Orientation reservations to Office of Admission • Registration completed during Summer Orientation Day

  9. Summer Orientation • Required for all new freshman • Academic component of orientation program • Dates: June and July 2012 • 1st come, 1st served basis

Housing Selections • Housing packets mailed to all students who pay enrollment deposit • Residents complete a housing questionnaire • Commuter students complete an exemption form • Housing assignments made on first-come, first-serve basis by date deposit is made • Housing assignments sent beginning in June

  13. Tuition & Fees for 2012-2013 • Tuition $27,370(full-time between 12 - 18 hours) • Room & Board $9,216 • standard room $4,300 • 19 meals per week $4,916 • Technology & Activity Fees $600 • Total Cost $37,186 • Average FA package (11/12) = $26,000 • *$37,186 - $26,000 = $11,186 est. balance

  14. What is Financial Aid (FA)? • Grants • Federal Pell Grant • Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant • Wilmington College General Grant • Student Loans • Stafford Loan • Perkins Loan • Scholarships & Awards • Work Study

What To Do • Apply for outside scholarships in fall • Get PIN # • one PIN for student, one PIN for parent(s) • Complete federal income tax forms • use actual figures not estimated • Complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) • www.fafsa.gov • one application for all federal, state, and institutional aid • In subsequent years, file a “renewal” FAFSA

Who files the FAFSA? • Student is receiving the aid • Biological parents must be included • If divorced, parent students resides with • If shared equally, who carries insurance • If biological parent remarried, step parent’s information is required – other biological parent not included • Does not matter who claims student on taxes • Both student and parent must sign the FAFSA using PIN #

  17. WC Academic Awards • Academic Awards • Stipends range from $6000 - $13,000 • Based on your cumulative GPA and ACT/SAT scores • Awarded at the time of Admission

WC Scholars Program • Available to full-time, freshmen attending main campus • Must be accepted to the College by December 1 • Cannot be stacked with other academic awards • Competition Based • Invitation only (3.5 and 25 typical qualifiers) • Invitations sent the first week in December • Competitions held in January and/or February • Renewable by meeting GPA requirement • Recipients must reside on campus

  19. Other WC Awards • Legacy up to $3000 • Parent (step), grandparent or sibling graduate of WC • Older sibling currently attending fulltime • Quaker affiliation or graduate of Quaker High School • Multicultural up to $3000 • Quaker Award up to $3000

  20. New Awards for 2012 • Pathways Grant • $2,500 • Stackable except with Scholars • Student must visit campus AND send us FAFSA results by March 15, 2012. • Academic Area Awards • Pre-Vet • Art • R&P • Theatre • Stackable except with Scholars

  22. Once You Receive Your Award • Look at aid programs • Look at estimated balance • Within budget? • Conversation with admission counselor for additional funds • Sign and return award notice and any other requested documentation • Visit us again with package

Payment Options • Payment in full for semester • August and December (billed twice a year) • WilPay program – monthly billing • Estimated balance divided by the number of months in billing period • Parent PLUS loan • Parents name • Denial allows student additional $4000 unsub Stafford • Student alternative loans

When May 1 Arrives… • Pay Enrollment Deposit of $150 to secure enrollment, housing, and summer orientation • Inform other colleges that you will NOT be enrolling so they can withdraw your admission and financial aid • Prepare for “matriculation” phase • Housing selection • Class registration • Summer orientation

  25. FA Timeline • Now • Seek outside scholarships through www.fastweb.com or www.collegeboard.com and other search sites • Get PIN numbers • Complete federal taxes • Complete FAFSA • March - April • Colleges will send financial aid packages • Visit colleges again • Decide by May 1
