The Needs: • Precipitation in high elevations surrounding SVRP produces inflow to the aquifer through: • Small, ungaged streams and associated alluvial valley ground-water inflow • Lake seepage • Need to understand • Quantity of inflow from above sources • Variations in flow over time • Conceptual nature of aquifer and lake interaction

  7. Approach • Average annual flow for each tributary basin estimated from USGS Streamstats • Monthly variation determined from an index to Little Spokane River

USGS Streamstats • Estimation method: USGS Streamstats • Based on correlation of flow to meteorological characteristics, basin size, elevation, vegetative cover, aspect, etc. • Regression relationship developed for regions • Product used: average annual runoff • http://water.usgs.gov/osw/streamstats/idaho.html

  18. Lake Pend Oreille • Strong evidence of seepage to aquifer • Seepage varies with lake stage • Nearby wells show similar response • Difficult to reliably estimate rate of seepage • Estimated seepage determined during model calibration to be about 80 cfs
