  2. Any questions from the homework? • How to determine the area of a rectangle. • Rectangle - Area = length x width • How to determine the perimeter of a rectangle? • Perimeter = 2l + 2w Review

  4. Length? • Width? • Base? • Height? • We use length and width when we are referring to a rectangle • We use base and height when we are referring to a parallelogram Base and height

  5. How do you determine which side is the base and which side is the height in a shape? • The height is perpendicular to the base. This means that it forms a right angle at the base • What is a right angle? • 90 degree angle • Look on page 195 for an example Area of a parallelogram

  6. Copy: Parallelogram: Area = base x height Area of a parallelogram

  7. Calculate the area of parallelogram Base? Height? Base- 5.0 cm Height- 2.4 cm Practice Area = base x height 5.0 cm x 2.4 cm= 12.0 cm 2
