  2. What is the Update Service? • HTTP and FTP based ‘service’ running in Austin • Available 24/7 via the internet

  3. Why Use the Update Service? • Verify you are running the latest modules • Replace missing or corrupted components • Add additional halFILE licenses

  4. Using the Update Service • Tech Support will instruct you to get a known fix from the update service • All users must be out of halFILE • The user must have power user rights to the local machine • Allow time for unexpected issues

  5. Avoiding Issues • Firewall must allow HTTP and FTP traffic • HTTP: Port 80 • FTP: Port 21 + allow outbound random port • Large files may not be allowed by your ISP so you may need to skip setup.exe (currently 50 MB)

  6. Terminal Services • Special case because typical user is not a power-user • Run once on each Terminal Server with an admin account • Leave deliver enabled for workstations but check the box for “do not apply updates to terminal services / Citrix sessions”

  7. Also at update.halfile.com • Install a new workstation • Automatically installs to correct location • Print-To halFILE • Send-To halFILE • New features as they become available
