  3. What’s Happening to My Brain? • Part of brainstem is paralyzing body • Prefrontal cortex is on break • Rational thought is gone • Amyglada • Emotional responses triggered • Lack of quick decision making • Hippocampus • Recreating explicit memories

  4. Causes of Nightmares • Memories • Brain making emotional connections • Stress and anxiety • Age

Common Nightmares • Chase or attack: What part of myself am I hiding or refusing to accept? • Falling (often towards death, it seems): am I feeling heavy, unsupported, worried/fearful about something? • Car out of control: is life too hectic, out of control? • Unprepared/late for or failing an exam: am I feeling unprepared for some upcoming event? Unconfident about my performance? • Stuck in slow motion, unable to move or make any noise: where am I feeling stuck in life, like I'm getting nowhere or unable to voice my true feelings? • Embarrassed to be nude in public: where in life am I feeling unconfident, embarrassed, unskilled? • Personal injury, dismemberment: what part of my life-not usually the physical body-have I been neglecting, mistreating, forgetting? • Trapped, locked in: where am I feeling trapped in life? • Drowning, threatening waves, or flooding: am I blocking, denying or feeling overwhelmed by my emotions or feeling very vulnerable? • Webb, Craig.
