  7. TDM to Transportation Options • In the beginning… • TDM – was often referred to as tedium • Individual agencies fought to be heard • Scarce funding • No one was agency responsible

We’ve Come A Long Way Today • State Transportation Options Group • Cohesive Statewide Transportation Options Plan • Dedicated funding • Local, state, and federal commitment • Recognition that Transportation Options… • Is the most cost-effective solution • Can be implemented quickly • Saves people money • Reduces traffic congestion, pollution and dependence on oil

  10. Goal 1: Promote Safety Transportation system to reduce serious injuries.Design, operate, and manage the crime and violence, ensure mobility for all ages, abilities and socio-economic levels. Made possible by funding from the Department of Health and Human Services through the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Goal 2: Build Multi-Modal Communities Prioritize development of multi-modal communities that provide residents of all ages and abilities, and economic levels with safe, reliable, comfortable and economical transportation choices. Made possible by funding from the Department of Health and Human Services through the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

  12. Goal 3: Design for Health Design, operate, manage streetscapes and public spaces to promote active living and lessen exposure to air and noise pollution and water and soil contamination. Made possible by funding from the Department of Health and Human Services through the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Goal 4: Promote Transportation Investment as Economic Development Invest in transportation improvements-including operational improvements-that support the economic health and competiveness of city’s businesses, and the safety and general welfare of its residents.   14. Goal 5: Integrate Transportation and Land Use Cities and counties should coordinate transportation infrastructure with land use and development. Made possible by funding from the Department of Health and Human Services through the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
