What next after zero till

Zero tillage is an enabling technology. Earlier sowing (new varieties)Residue retention (reduced losses of organic matter)Reduced loss of water from seedbed (sow on less rainfall)Improved weed control options (non residual herbicides)Reduced wind and water erosionReduced soil structural decline

    1. What next after zero till? Making the most from changing tillage practices [W.K. Anderson Sept. 2009]

    2. Zero tillage is an enabling technology Earlier sowing (new varieties) Residue retention (reduced losses of organic matter) Reduced loss of water from seedbed (sow on less rainfall) Improved weed control options (non residual herbicides) Reduced wind and water erosion Reduced soil structural decline (surface crusting) Reduced fuel costs

    3. What ZT does not do….. It does not increase grain yield by itself It does not increase soil organic matter Most comparisons are not sown on the same day, so the impact on yield can not be separated from the early sowing effect.

    4. A no till seeder with disc openers

    5. G x TS – four types of response
