  2. What’s QuickBooks Error H303 and How can you Fix it? Being used by thousands of companies throughout the world, QuickBooks has proved itself a trustworthy software for managing day-to-day accounting and financing operations. Developed by Inuit, QuickBooks comes with a number of powerful tools and features that assist users to invoice customers, complete tax forms, pay bills, generate financial reports, payroll, and track the overall cash flow. However, just like any other accounting software, QuickBooks is also vulnerable to countless errors and technical glitches. This article will discuss QuickBooks error H303 that happens when a user tries to access the company file placed in another computer on the network in multi-user mode. The error code pops up on the computer screen with an error message, stating, “This company file is on another computer, and QuickBooks needs some help connecting.”

  3. What causes QuickBooks error code H303? Below-down we have mentioned all the possible reasons that can trigger QuickBooks error code H303: • More than one computer is set as the server to host the company file in multi-user mode. • Due to network connectivity issues between the server and the workstation. • The Windows Firewall is blocking QuickBooks necessary services, such as QuickBooks Database Server Manager or QuickBooks Company File Monitoring, on the server computer.

  4. What should you do to fix QuickBooks error H303? Solution 1) Correct hosting configuration settings on computers • Open QuickBooks Desktop on workstations that are displaying the error. • In QuickBooks Desktop, select the File menu and then hover over the Utilities option. • From the Utilities side menu, select the Stop Hosting Multi-User Access option. Note: If the Host Multi-User Access option is available, ignore it and move on to the next workstation as that specific system is not causing the error.

  5. Once you check all workstations that are displaying the error, move on to the server computer ( the computer that usually hosts the company file). • On the server computer, open the QuickBooks Desktop application. • Select the File menu and then hover over the Utilities option. • From the Utilities side menu, select the Host Multi-User Access option. Note: If the Stop Hosting Multi-User Access option is available, ignore it.

  6. Solution 2) Check network connectivity between the server and the workstation Step 1) Enable network discovery on the server computer and the workstation • Select the Windows Start menu on both the server and the workstation. • Enter “Network” into the search column and open Network and Sharing Centre. • From the left panel, choose the Change advanced sharing settings option. • Under the Network Discovery section, checkmark the Turn on network discovery checkbox and then hit the Save changes button.

  7. Step 2) Get the server’s name from the server • On the server computer, open the Run command window by pressing Windows + R keys. • Type “cmd” in the Open: field and then press the Enter key. • On the CMD window, enter “ipconfig/all” and then press the Enter key. • Under the Windows IP Configuration section, look for Host Name and make a note of it. Step 3) Check the network connectivity • On the workstation, open the Run command window by pressing Windows + R keys. • On the CMD window, enter “ping_[your server’s name]” and then press the Enter key. • If you receive a reply for each packet with zero packet loss in the result, then there is no network connectivity issue. However, if you notice packet loss or a very slow reply, then we suggest you to run the QuickBooks File Doctor tool from the QB Tool Hub.

  8. Solution 3) Adjust the Windows Firewall settings for QuickBooks Desktop • On the server computer, select the Windows Start menu and enter “Windows Firewall” into the search field. • Open Windows Firewall and then click on the Advanced Settings option from the left panel. • Right-click Inbound Rules and then choose the New Rule option. • Click on the Program option and then hit the Next button. • Choose This Program Path and select the Browse option to find one of the following files using the location path.

  9. QBDBMgrN.exe - C:\Program Files\Intuit\QUICKBOOKS YEAR QBCFMonitorService.exe - C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks • Hit the Next button. Note: You are required to add both the above-mentioned files individually. • Choose the Allow the Connection option and then hit the Next button. • Make a new rule and give it a name in the following manner: “QBFirewallException(name.exe).” • Once you are finished creating inbound rules, create outbound rules by repeating the aforementioned steps in the same manner, except you need to choose Outbound Rules instead of Inbound Rules.

  10. Conclusion: If the QuickBooks Desktop error H303 persists, even after following all the troubleshooting solutions mentioned above, then there is a great possibility that necessary QuickBooks services, such as QuickBooksDBXX and QBCFMonitorService, are not running on the server computer. Our recommendation for you to try to restart QuickBooks services on the server and see whether this resolves the error or not. You can also get in touch with our QuickBooks error experts at (844-888-4666) for instant troubleshooting assistance.
