  5. Almost all of this energy comes form the sun.

  7. Animals must eat other animals or plant life for energy.

  8. Food gives animals the energy to grow and reproduce.

  9. They need living space for protection from predators

  10. If any of these three thing were missing… …the organism will die.

  12. Cells were far too small to be seen prior to the invention of the microscope. Robert Hooke gave the cell its name while using the microscope. He was looking at cork under A microscope

  13. Anton van Leeuwenhoek He was one of the first to describe the cell. He thought they looked like miniature animals calling them “animalcules”.

  14. The Cell Theory 1. Every living is made of one or more cells. 2. Cells carry out the functions needed to support life. 3. Cells come from only other living things.

  16. Louis Pasteur He was a French scientist who showed the Practical use of the cell theory. HOW? He observed (through a microscope) that harmful bacteria was growing in milk causing it to spoil. He created a process (Pasteurization) that killed off this bacteria making milk safe to drink.

  17. Spontaneous Generation Bacteria grew from non-living things.

  18. Pasteur's Experiment • Two flasks of broth-One is sealed, the other • seal is broken. 2. Let them sit for several days. 3.Sealed Flask is unchanged Unsealed flask becomes cloudy because of bacteria growth. 4. Conclusion- The broth in the unsealed Container clouded because bacteria from the Surroundings was able to get into the broth and grow.
