  10. Current Issues and Discussion:The Three Patriarchal Practices that became Trespasses against the Law later: A. The Sin of Homosexuality - Sodomy, GLBT, etc. B. The Sin of Immorality – C. The Sin of Incest • Gen. 19:5; Rom. 1:26-28 • Gen. 19:8; Heb. 13:4 • Gen. 19:32; I Cor. 5:1-5

  11. The Sin of Homosexuality and Lesbianism Condemned: • "Homosexual" is Greek (arsenokoites).  2 occ. in the N.T. I Cor. 6:9; I Tim. 1:10 • One who lies with a male as with a female, sodomite, homosexual. Strong, J. (1996). • The KJVtranslates it as abusers of themselveswith mankind, and defile themselves with mankind. • The NASB and NKJVtranslate it as "homosexuals."  • The NIVas "homosexual offenders."  • The RSV as "sexual perverts." • The NRSV“sodomites”

  12. Before the Law – Sodomy as practised in Sodom. Gen. 19:5 • They called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know (have sex, NIV) them. And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous. Gen. 18:20 • Sodomyis any non-penile/vaginal copulation-like act, such as oral or anal sex, or sex between a person and an animal …   So-called "sodomy laws" in many countries criminalized not only these behaviours, but other disfavoured sexual activities as well, but in the Western world, many of these laws have been overturned, or are not routinely enforced. Wikipedia

  13. After the Law: • Homosexuality is Admonished as SIN! Cf. 18:20 • In the Old Testament. Lev. 18:22, Lev. 20:13, If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death… b) In the New Testament: 1 Cor. 6:9-10, NIV-the sexually immoral … idolaters … adulterers…male prostitutes…homosexual offenders Rom. 1:26-28, NIV - women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones…men…inflamed with lust for one another…Men committed indecent acts with other men…

  14. (1) Homosexuality is Admonished as SIN!(2) Homosexuality is Against creation order: • The Act of Creation. Gen. 1:27 • The Aim of Creation. Gen. 1:28 • It is Alien to nature – Cf. Gen. 2:18-20 • Both Male and Female Physically and Physiologically complement each other. • Mentally and Socially both supplement each other.

  15. (1) Homosexuality is Admonished as SIN!(2) Homosexuality is Against creation order. (3) God Acts against Homosexuality Himself. Rom. 1:26, 27, NRSV (4) Homosexuals seek Approval for what they indulge in. Rom. 1:32, NIV (5) It is Antichristian spiritually and metaphorically. It cannot picture Christ and the Church in Marriage.

  16. Is this politically correct? 2. What is biblically correct? • Homosexuality is a sin. • God condemns the sin but He loves all sinners, including the homosexual (I Jn. 4:8) and Christ has died for him/her. • Like all other sinners, he/she needs to repent (Acts 17:30) and return to God through Christ Who bore his/her sins in His own body on the tree. (I Pet. 2:24). • He/Sheneeds to receive Christ and be received by God as His children. (Jn. 1:12).

  17. What is personally and individually correct?Or What should be the Christian's response to the Homosexual? a) Show the homosexual Affection and pray for him/her. b) Acknowledge the homosexual as still made in the image of God. He/She should be treated as such – with dignity and respect. • However, do not Approve their Act which must be seen in the light of God’s Word.

  18. (B) INCEST • The Crime Defined: • Sexual intercourse between persons too closely related to marry (as between a parent and a child) - Dictionary • “The crime of sexual intercourse or cohabitation between a man and woman who are related to each other within the degrees wherein marriage is prohibited by law”Black, p. 685

  19. (B) INCEST • Examples of incest in the Bible. • The sons/daughters of Adam and Eve married each other. Gen. 4 • Abraham married his half-sister Sarah. Gen. 20:12 • Lot’s daughters committed incest with their father. Gen. 19 • Moses’ father, Amram married his aunt, Jochebed Ex. 6:20 • David’s son Amnon committed incest with his half-sister, Tamar. II Sam. 13

  20. 1. Examples of incest in the Bible. 2. The Explanation: • In the Old Testament: i. Incest in Patriarchal days – not pronounced as sin because of the then situation. • As in the days after Adam and Eve. • As in the days after Noah.

  21. 2. The Explanation:a. In the Old Testament: i. Incest in Patriarchal days – ii. Incest in Post-Law days. Lev. 18:6-18 • Sexual cohabitation not permitted between: A man and his mother, his sister, A granddaughter, an aunt, etc. Punishment: Expulsion!(18:29) shall be cut off from among their people. b. Incest in New Testament days. I Cor. 5:1-5 • The Case of Incest in the Corinthian Church. • Punishment: Excommunication! (5:5)

  22. Conclusion: The Sins of Sodom: • The Sin of Homosexuality. Gen. 19:5 B. The Sin of Immorality. Gen. 19:8 Cf. “fornication” , etc. in the N.T. C. The Sin of Incest. Gen. 19:31-38

  23. I Cor. 3:16; 6:19, 20 • Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. • What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

  24. I Thes. 4:3, 4, NIV It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honourable. Be ye holy; for I am holy.
