  3. Mental Math • Count by 9’s from 9 to 108 • 8 x 225 256 + 34 • 250 - 99 $25 - $12.50 • Double 2 ½ 800 ÷ 20 • 10 x 10, - 20, + 1, ÷ 9, x 5, - 1, ÷ 4

  4. + or - x ÷ by a whole ÷ by a decimal Operation • Decimal Chart Memory Cue Line up X, then Count over Move Decimal Straight Up Over, over, up You may need to: Place a decimal point to the right of a whole number Fill empty places with zero’s

  5. Simplifying Fractions • We simplify fractions in two ways. We reduce fractions to lowest terms, and we convert improper fractions to mixed numbers. • Sometimes a fraction can be reduced and converted to a mixed number.

  6. Example 4/6 + 5/6 = 4/6 + 5/6 9/6 = Reduce First Convert 1st Reduce: 9/6 = 3/2 9/6 = 1 3/6 Convert: 3/2 = 1 ½ 1 3/6 = 1 ½
