Analyse of the speeches concerning the transition towards digital technologies Corpus of articles concerning on line radio (web) : 29 articles coming from French « mass media » (between 1999 and 2000), included 8 articles of the newspaper “Liberation” Corpus of articles concerning digital radio (RNT) : 71 articles coming from French « mass media » (between 2007 and 2009), included 21 articles of the economic newspaper “Les Echos”

Analyse of the speeches concerning the transition towards digital technologies Main results concerning on-line radio (web) : Artiles focussed on the technical offer, Innovation seen as effective (41% in the service offer), Interest seens first as economic, Users put aside, even with words used like “interaction” and “multimedia”, No debates. Examples of sentences : “Invent a new kind of radio on Internet, “the users has the opportunity to listen much more than radio”, “revolution”. The first hypothesis is met

Analyse of the speeches concerning the transition towards digital technologies Main results concerning digital radio (RNT) Representations focused on the technical offer (55%), Use of dates (47%), Economic logic (15%), Decisions coming from the French high authority of media (11%), Technical interest to create demand (territory : 12%, quality of sound : 21%,multimedia : 25%, new contents : 17%), ¨Points of views challenging the interest of digital radio appear : cost of diffusion (5%), economical problems faced by local Radio (7%), radio receivers (20%). No articles concerning the users.

Same with digital radio : might not be the same uses. As a consequence, importance to qualify predictions.

Think innovation as an evolution and not as a “revolution” Françoise Massit-Foléa : “By-pass the double tention between technophoby and technophily” Franck Rebillard : “importance to be patient, waiting for the validation or Invalidation of the phenomenon.”
