  5. Fashions for men and women Men • Ties • Driving gloves • Oxford bags • Raccoon coat • Hair was gelled back Women • Bobbed hair • Missing corset • Peekaboo hats • Short dresses

  6. Fads & fashions • New York starts to become known as the “fashion capital” • Jazz music • Started these things to get a change from the war • Vogue • Dancing such as the foxtrot, shimmy, Charleston • Bobbed hair • Silent films • Automobiles • Disney • Gangsters

  8. Women rebel • In the 1920’s women started to rebel against society to gain intellectual independence • Trying to transition from old domestic ways of women • Some ways they rebelled were using profanity in public and smoking

  9. Schools • Americans kept children in schools because they didn’t depend on their wages like before • College numbers increased • New schools were built with huge gyms and laboratories

  10. Impact of fads • Changed society forever • Women and men were viewed differently than before • Women redefined their gender role. • Speakeasies started coming around • Jazz started booming • Nightclubs • Prohibition

  11. New youth culture • New youth culture was a social change in America because it shows how people changed in society during the 1920’s
