PICKING THE RIGHT AVIATION SCHOOL FOR YOU A RECREATIONAL PILOT LICENCE (RPL) To obtain a Recreational Pilot Licence, individuals must be at least 16 years old, have a CASA medical certificate, complete 20 hours of flight training with an instructor, and pass an aeronautical theory exam and flight test in a CASA approved aircraft. A PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE (PPL) PPL training requires holding an RPL, a CASA medical certificate, and 30 hours of flying training, including 22 cross country, 6 solo, and 2 instrument flight. A COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENCE (CPL) A Commercial Pilot Licence requires 18 years of age, English language proficiency, 150 flight hours, 70-70 hours as pilot-in- command, 20 cross-country, and 10 instrument flight hours.
