  3. Before you write, do you know where you are going? Do you know your story ending?

  4. Before you write, know three things • What will be the problem in your story? How will the problem began? • How will the story have sequence of events that are not just listed (and, and then, then), but show the reader ( not just tell the reader) the action of the story? (Use details. Make the reader hungry to read your story) • How will the story end? (not in a boring way)

  7. WORDS ARE YOUR BEST FRIENDS • Think about • SIMILES (use “like” or “as”) • METAPHORS (use “is” or “are”) • ONOMATOPEIA (sound words) • ADJECTIVES (adjectives describe) • ADVERBS (add to verbs; -ly) “roared loudly” • VERBS (strong verbs) • INTERJECTIONS (Yes! The spaceship…..)

  8. WORDS MAKE A BETTER STORY • READERS ARE EXCITED TO HEAR FRESH NEW WORDS OR DESCRIPTIONS. • READERS FALL ASLEEP WHEN YOUR WORDS ARE TOO EASY, AND WORDS THEY HAVE HEARD SO MANY TIMES BEFORE! • BE A WORD EXPERT! Don’t be afraid to try new words and phrases!

  12. FACTS ABOUT MARS • Mars is called the Red Planet. Red is caused by rust-colored dust (iron oxide) that covers Mars’ surface and atmosphere around Mars. Sometimes giant dust storms cover the planet. • Mars is the closest planet to the earth. It is smaller, drier and colder than earth. • Mars is 4th planet from the sun. • A Martian year is 687 earth days! • Mars does not have water. • Mars has a volcano that is 13 miles high. It is named Olympus Mons. It has a grand canyon, VallesMarineris, as long as USA is wide. • Opportunity, a Mars vehicle robot, is still on active on Mars. • Mars is lighter than earth. It has a thin atmosphere. • Mars has two moons, Diemos and Phobus.
