  1. A Sacrifice for Liberty Independence Day Message

  2. Romans 13:1-2 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. • “…solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty." John Adams

  3. John Quincy Adams [T]here was no anarchy. . . . [T]he people of the North American union, and of its constituent States, were associated bodies of civilized men and Christians in a state of nature, but not of anarchy. They were bound by the laws of God, which they all, and by the laws of the Gospel, which they nearly all, acknowledged as the rules of their conduct.

  4. Samuel Adams The Rights of the Colonists as Christians. These may be best understood by reading and carefully studying the institutes of the great Law Giver and Head of the Christian Church, which are to be found clearly written and promulgated [proclaimed] in the New Testament. Samuel Adams 1772

  5. John Dickenson Kings or parliaments could not give the rights essential to happiness. . . . We claim them from a higher source — from the King of kings, and Lord of all the earth. They are not annexed to us by parchments and seals.

  6. Proverbs 29:2 “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.”

  7. Willing to Sacrifice • “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.”

  8. Declaration of Faith • First of all, I . . . rely upon the merits of Jesus Christ for a pardon of all my sins. Samuel Adams • I am constrained to express my adoration of . . . the Author of my existence . . . [for] His forgiving mercy revealed to the world through Jesus Christ, through whom I hope for never ending happiness in a future state. Robert Treat Paine

  9. I think it proper here not only to subscribe to . . . doctrines of the Christian religion . . . but also, in the bowels of a father's affection, to exhort and charge them [my children] that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom… Richard Stockton

  10. On the mercy of my Redeemer I rely for salvation and on His merits; not on the works I have done in obedience to His precepts. Charles Carroll • I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus Christ. Thomas Jefferson

  11. My only hope of salvation is in the infinite, transcendent love of God manifested to the world by the death of His Son upon the Cross. Nothing but His blood will wash away my sins. I rely exclusively upon it. Come, Lord Jesus! Come quickly! Benjamin Rush (Father of American Medicine)

  12. I believe that there is one only living and true God, existing in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, the same in substance, equal in power and glory. That the Scriptures of the old and new testaments are a revelation from God and a complete rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy Him. Roger Sherman

  13. I shall now entreat . . . you in the most earnest manner to believe in Jesus Christ, for "there is no salvation in any other" [Acts 4:12]. . . . [I]f you are not clothed with the spotless robe of His righteousness, you must forever perish. John Witherspoon

  14. Motto for the Revolution “No King but King Jesus!”

  15. State Constitutions Signers helped draft These Constitutions • Delaware • Massachusetts • North Carolina - Leaders were to believe in Biblical Authority and Sovereignty of God • Each of the 44 states held God at the center of its constitution – Supreme Court 1892
