each year in the Region of the Americas.

Other infectious diseases (4.0%)

  • Infectious diseases, acute respiratory infections (ARIs) and nutritional problems are the cause of 27% of these deaths.
  • Pneumonia and diarrhea continue among the five main causes of death in children under five.
