  2. Opening&ClosingFiles • [File][Open], [New], or [Close](same as WORD & PowerPoint) • [Save] & [Save as](same as WORD & PowerPoint) Click:

  3. CellNames (address) • Rows are numbered: 1, 2, 3,4 ...) Columns are lettered: A, B, C ..ZZ For Cell name, Call letter 1st & then the number as in “E4”

  4. GettingAroundinExcel Move cursor by using: 1. Mouse – Click on any cell 2. TAB Key – Moves to right 3. Arrow Keys – scroll any direction

  5. TypesofCells • Numeric - when a number is used as its numeric value (=2+2) or (=D1+D2) • Alphanumeric- letters, symbols, & numbers which have no numeric value (Jane Doe) (410-60-9900) Every cell is one or the other, but not both

  6. Entering Formulas Type formula in cell using an “=“ in front (=2 * 3) Click the green check , or press [Enter] Using the green checkwill leave the cursor in the same cell – important for filling formulas

  7. To Select orHi-LiteCells • Mouse – Click & Drag to hi-lite • Press [F8] and use arrow keys to extend hi-lite (same as WORD) • Column- [click mouse] in the gray area by column letter • Row- [click mouse] in the gray area by Row number

  8. ColumnFormat (width of cell) Click: • [Format] [Column] • Choose from Menu: • Width • Autofit Selection • Hide • Unhide • Standard Width

  9. RowFormat (height of cell) Click: • [Format] [Row] • Choose from Menu: • Width • Autofit Selection • Hide • Unhide

  10. Formulas (symbols) + (plus) -(minus) * (multiply) / (divide) ^ (power) =2^3 is 2 to the third power (D4:D8) is the range of values including cells D4 thru D8

Formulas (in use) Type Formula into cell: =SUM(D4:D12)- adds all numbers in cells “D4 thru D12” =AVERAGE(D4:T4)- averages all values in cells “D4 thru T4” =D3- when placed in another cell calls the value from cell “D3” =V5*.5+W5*.25+X5*.25multiplies V5 by 50%,W5 by 25%,X5 by 25%, and adds them togetherNote: the underline is for emphasis only!

Attendance with Accumulation for Semester • Setup your grading period with each attendance day • Use a number 1 for each absence • Use =SUM(range) to sum the absences for each student • Setup each grading period separately on a sheet & call the absences for that grading period for each student to the “master recap sheet” • Formula in Cell AH4 is =SUM(D4:AG4) & is filled-down thru AH13 • Formula in Cell AO4 is =AH4 which calls the total for accumulation

  13. Weighted Grades with drop scores Formulas Formulas are filled-down to prevent entering them so many times – click in lower right corner of the cell, then drag & drop…..

  14. Showing All Formulas Click: • [Tools] • [Options] • Click [Formulas]On • [OK] [Formulas] is an on/off switch
