Specified Data Presented by: J. Diamant Boustead / B. Whitehead TCCA
Specified Data – is: • Specified Data is a “source” description. Per AWM 571.06: “is information contained in authoritative documents which, although not approved by the Minister, has been specified by the Minister as appropriate for the purpose of major modifications and major repairs…” • In contrast, “approved data” is a “content” document , created and approved specifically for the modification or repair
Specified Data – the intent • It was intended to specify “source” documents that contained information necessary to satisfy airworthiness design requirements for specific installations. • Data specified must be complete enough to assure that the requirements of the certification basis are met if the modification / repair is accomplished i.a.w. the specified data • No additional data should be required • No assessment of compliance should be required by the installer as the data is supposed to be complete.
Specified Data – TCCA Approach • Use of specified data is being aligned with original intent • Use will be limited to: • List provided in current 571.06(1) definition. (list is exhaustive) • Material specified by the Minister in ACSIs / ACPLs addressing specific types of installations: • Existing example: ACPl 60 Encoding Altimeters • Currently In draft: General Avionics • GPS (ACPL 17 revision) • VHF, Nav/Com • CVRs
Specified Data – Guidance Model Guidance Material “specified” by the Minister - OEM SBs - SRM • AC 43-13 with conditions Existing List in 571.06 i.e. ACPL 60 - GPS (based on ACPL 17) - CVR - Simple Avionics (I.e. VHF/VOR/NAV COM) - Other topic specific as developed and specified by TCCA OR
Specified Data – New Guidance Material AC 571-xx Specified data / Generic Instructions: • Background / Intent • General conditions for use • Reporting requirements AC 571-xy Specified Data / Specific Mods (e.g. Avionics (Comm/Nav, CVR, GPS)) • Reference to above General AC • Specific criteria / conditions for use • Specific limitations
