  5. Adjunct Faculty Major Grant Initiatives The major grant initiatives proposed as the campus level for strengthening the adjunct faculty base are to improve compensation, to provide adequate permanent space and physical resources, and to provide professional development opportunities.

  6. Adjunct Faculty Major Grant Initiatives At the college wide (central) level, an adjunct faculty management program will be put in place and draw from best practices developed at the campus level and from guidance provided by leadership from other colleges that distinguish themselves in this area

  7. Web-Site Development The College will develop an on-line, state-wide website that will serve as a resource for adjunct faculty. Items that will be available on this website include but are not limited to: policy information, College terminology, professional development resources, on-line Orientation materials, etc. Additionally, each region will develop regionally determined supporting information (i.e. calendars, resource guide, etc.). Both the state-wide and regional information will be updated once per calendar year.

  8. “Getting Results” Professional Development All regions should make available the opportunity for adjunct faculty to participate and complete the League for Innovation’s on-line professional development activity “Getting Results.” Additionally, should a campus/region elect to purchase a program (i.e. Thompson-Delmar Boot Camp), this would serve as an appropriate substitute/alternative.

  9. Adjunct Faculty Participation/Inclusion As a standard practice, adjunct faculty should be invited to participate in campus/regional activities including but not limited to: commencement, committees, faculty meetings, etc.

  10. Mentoring Program It is recommended that each region should adopt an adjunct faculty mentoring program. This program should be offered to all newly hired adjuncts and should be highly recommended to those who have little or no teaching experience. Each campus/region should design a recognition plan for the mentoring program which could include additional compensation.

  11. Faculty Network Plan Each region, where applicable, should when possible develop a faculty network place with surrounding institutions, graduate programs, and other appropriate entities to facilitate the recruitment and sharing of adjunct faculty.

  12. Adjunct Faculty Orientation Each year, all adjunct faculty should complete an Orientation module that is either delivered face-to-face or on-line. Regional campuses will determine the content of the face-to-face module. A broad-based, state-wide on-line Orientation will be delivered with capabilities for regions to customize and add regionally determined content.

  13. Access to Classroom Items Each campus will provide access to necessary classroom items that support student success.

  14. Adjunct Faculty Welcome Kit All adjunct faculty, at the commencement of their initial employment will be provided a “welcome kit” of classroom items that support student learning and adjunct faculty retention. Items are regionally determined, but may include items such as dry-erase markers, stapler, paper clips, erasers, t-shirt, coffee mug, etc.

  15. Adjunct Faculty Mini-Medical Plan The College will extend an opportunity for adjunct faculty to purchase and participate in a mini-medical plan. Individuals choosing to participate in such a plan would be responsible for all monthly fees. At no time will the College incur or supplement the cost of such a plan for adjunct faculty. Adjunct faculty will be billed at their home address and there will be no central or regional functional coordination of the plan. This plan is not a substitute for basic, comprehensive or major medical insurance and should not be used to replace such.

  16. Adjunct Faculty Workspace The College and developed and implemented building construction standards. Therefore, any new construction that occurs at the College will include design requirements based upon the number of adjunct faculty teaching on the campus.
