  1. Thriller codes and conventions by WojciechBajos

  2. Characters • Usually, in the thriller genre, the film’s protagonist is a detective, police officer, or somebody fighting for survival. They usually are put in a lot of stress and pressure, they have to make tough decisions usually caused by the antagonist. • Antagonist is usually the mysterious, unrevealed until the plot twist character that causes tension and problems in the thriller. Or we do know about him from the start, but nobody else in the scene does. The Antagonist doesn’t need to be a character either. It can be the weather, a whole group or even a computer program. Anything that causes problems for our protagonist.

  3. Props/Costumes Costumes for the thriller genre are usually common. To keep the mysterious theme. But the protagonistusually are charismatic as well as the antagonists. Thriller uses many props, fake dead bodies, guns etc. All of the things you would see in a possible detective case.

  4. Settings/Locations Locations in the thriller genre are mostly dark and mysterious. There might be one singular room or a variety of countries. It all depends of the plot but the settings, lighting and music usually stay the same.

  5. Music/Sound effects The music in the thriller is usually creepy at times, mysterious, anything that causes tension and mystery. They also play it in the action scenes, using some more tempo and speed to increase the effect.

  6. Lighting The lighting in the thriller film plays a major role. It is usually normal. Like a normal day or a movie. However In the tension scenes, the lighting is usually dimmed with high contrast. It creates a common, scary and mysterious atmosphere to keep the audience focused, interested but scared at the same time.
