  2. Young Years • Martin Luther King was born January 15th, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. • King had an older sister, Willie Christine. • King had a younger brother, Alfred Daniel Williams King. • In May, 1936 King was baptized.

  3. Facts About Him • Rosa Parks was the spark to start the movement by saying no to a white man. • After King’s grandmother died he attempted suicide by jumping out of a two-story building. • He skipped 9th and 11th grade and went to college when he was 15. • Martin Luther King got married to Coretta Scott in 1953. • His Real name is Michael Luther King Jr. then changed to Martin.

  4. King’s Awards • He won the Nobel Peace Prize. • In 1963 a national magazine named him Man of the Year.

  5. Famous Quotes • “I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight that we, as a people we will get there.

  6. Later Years • He was killed in Tennessee by James Earl Ray. • James Earl Ray died in prison. • On his grave it said “free at last, free at last, thank God almighty I’m free at last.”

What Did He Do? • He fought for African Americans civil rights. • He used peaceful movements to fight for him. • He fought for peace!!!!!!!!!!!! • King was important in African American because he protested for peace and equal rights for blacks. • Also, he wanted blacks and whites to come together and be one.

  8. What He Gave To Us. • He gave peace. • He gave courage and knowledge to people to protest instead of fighting. • He gave love to everyone no matter what skin color they were.

Character Traits he showed. • He showed courage, by going against the laws. • He showed wisdom, by not fighting with force, because that would only make thing worse. • He showed his wish equality, by fighting for it and not stopping until he was not there to fight the fight. • He showed LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because he cared for other people no matter if they were weak, mean, or unconfident, he loved them.
