  2. A product of Forestry Title VIII of the 2002 FarmBill • Goodbye to FIP and SIP • $100 million dollar program thru 2007 • FY2003 allocation to KS was $122,255; anticipate $61,128 FY2004 • Administrated by the Kansas Forest Servicewith guidance from the Forest Stewardship Committee

  3. Objectives of FLEP Forest Land Enhancement Program • To encourage landowners to actively manage their timber • To enhance the productivity of timber, fish, wildlife habitat, soil and water quality, wetlands, and recreational resources

  4. FLEP Covers 75% of the Cost to Plant Trees and Implement Management Practices in Woodlands and Windbreaks

  5. Who is Eligible for the Program? • Private landowners state-wide • Landowners who own 40 contiguous acres or more

  6. Landowners must have a management plan prepared by their local forester A serviceprovided by the KFS

  7. FLEP 2 Afforestation/Reforestation Tree planting for commercial timber production and other objectives such as wildlife habitat

  8. FLEP 3 Forest Stand Improvement Thinning, release, pruning or protecting woodlands to increase tree growth

  9. FLEP 4 Agroforestry Tree planting for windbreak systems. Renovation of mature windbreaks Alley Cropping

  10. FLEP 5 Water Quality Improvement and Watershed Protection Tree planting adjacent to streams and rivers to improve water quality and protection of riparian areas
