  2. Allies Plan For Victory • Dec. 22nd 1941- F.D.R. & Churchill meet at White House to develop joint-war policy • Agree to open front in the West • Weaken Germany on two fronts and then defeat them

  3. The North African Campaign • Battle of El Alamein- Oct. 23rd 1942- Allied troops attack Rommel’s army • Nov. 3rd – Rommel’s army defeated • Operation Torch- 107,000 allied troops led by General Eisenhower land in Morocco & Algeria • Rommel’s Afrika Korps defeated May 1943

  4. Invasion of Italy • 180,000 soldiers land on Sicily on July 10th 1943 • July 25th – King Emmanuel III fires Mussolini and has him arrested • Sept. 3rd- Italy surrenders • April 28th 1945- Mussolini captured and killed

  5. D-Day Invasion • Invasion of Normandy was the greatest land & sea attack in history • June 6th 1944 – D-Day • August 25th – Paris liberated by allies • France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands liberated by September

  6. The Battle of the Bulge • Hitler was facing war on two fronts • Dec. 16th- German tanks break through Allied lines • Allies push back Germans and win • Continue march towards Germany

  7. Germany’s Unconditional Surrender • March 1945- Allies enter Germany • By the middle of April – 3 million Allied soldiers and 5 million Soviet soldiers are approaching Berlin • April 29th- Hitler gives final address • May 7th – German military unconditionally surrenders • May 8th- V-E Day • Sept. 2nd- V-J Day
