  1. National Conference on Agriculture for Zaid -2019Critical Inputs for Productivity enhancement of Zaid/Summer Crops SHRI ASHWANI KUMAR Joint Secretary, DAC&FW

  2. Critical inputs for enhancement of productivity • High quality seeds of improved/high yielding varieties. • Create awareness on variety specific package of practices for cultivation. • Early bed preparation and sowing with modern implements. • Optimizing utilization of water by efficient irrigation system. • Efficient use of bio-pesticide and bio-control agents.

  3. SOIL HEALTH • 18.38 crore Soil Health Card has been issued to the farmers across the Country. • 100% Neem Coated Urea manufacturing leads to more efficiency and less cost. • Use of Compost, Vermicompost, Green manures and bio-fertilizers increase the soil health and effective use of fertilizers and cost saving. • By removing of deficiency of Potash and Boron of we can increase wheat production by 6 qtls./ha. • By using potash mobilizing bacteria unavailable potash in the soil can made available to the crop. • In potato crop in same way by making available the potash to plant the size and production of crop can increase.

  4. QUALITY SEEDS • Seeds play a critical role in increasing production and productivity of various crops. • By using quality seeds 20-25% of agricultural production can be increase. • Placement of the Zaid crop seeds at sale points by January end for timely sowing. • After harvest of Potato, Peas, Vegetables area be brought under short duration Moong, Urd, Cowpea, Til etc. • Farmers can get additional income by growing Zaid crops.

  5. Climate change is affecting country agriculture production through • Frequent less rain, drought, • uneven distribution, • floods in one or other part of the country • Farmers can increase production by newly released varieties by using, • stress tolerant rice and wheat varieties, • bio-fortified varieties of nutri cereals, pulses, oilseeds • State Government should create awareness among stake holders including seed producers, dealers and farmers to popularize the Zaid crops.

  6. Under Seed Village Programme the State Government should ensure availability of quality seeds to the farmers. • This scheme can help for speedier spread of new varieties. • Government is working for protocol of DNA finger printing in 20 crops. • State government can develop the infrastructure facilities for DNA testing so that genetic pure seed can be available to the farmers. • Government is also planning to develop a software for online registration testing issuing a certificates and traceability from farmer to the seed company and further up to the retailers so that good quality seed is available to the farmers.

  7. Area & Seed Requirement for Zaid Season, 2019

  8. Reducing Input Cost and Increasing Productivity by Mechanization

  9. Modern Methods of Land Preparation

  10. Modern Methods Pesticide Application

  11. Mechanization for Paddy Straw Management

  12. Paddy Straw Burning Impact of Paddy Straw Burning Extent of Problem:

  13. Saving of crop from Pest & Diseases • Effective, Sustainable and Environmentally sensitive approach is needed for effective control of pest and diseases which are: • By adopting recommended package of practices • Increase of use of light/pheromone traps. • Use of friendly Parasitoid and Predators: Trichogrammaspp. pseudomonas spp. etc. • Regular Monitoring/Surveillance and dissemination of timely advisories

  14. Bio-pesticides as a critical input • In India, 15 different types bio-pesticides have been registered so far under the insecticides Act, 1958. • Use of Bio-pesticides in IPM based crop protection can enhance productivity by reducing crop loss. • Bio-pesticides represent only 3% of the overall pesticides used in India. • Popularization the use of bio-pesticides to the farmers will help in enhancing the quality production. Some of the examples are: • Application of Trichoderma spp., Pseudomonas spp., and Bacillus spp. on leaves can reduce the incidence of rust disease in beans. • Foliar application of Pseudomonas fluorescens (Pf1) reduced the severity of Pucciniasppof groundnut • Use of chemical pesticides is a last resort.
