Stereotypes and Misconceptions • “Good luck, but most of our students want to go to college” • “Yes I know what you guys do, welding, machine shop, and auto service….told you I know” • “You offer what?…college credit!” • “I only know a little, but I have heard you guys are one of the best kept secrets around” • “Did you just change your name?”

The Statistics for Entering High School • 33% of Middle School students will not graduate with their entering high school class • High School drop-outs report they made the decision to leave school by November of their freshman year • Almost 99% of all Middle School students, when asked, say they want to graduate high school • 40% of U.S. population has a college degree • 30% of Oklahomans has a college degree

Community Events Career Awareness Night 5th grade through High School 1,500-3,000 students and parents attend 40-60 business partners 8-12 colleges & universities Provide parents with resources Summer Youth Academy 35 teachers (partner school teachers) 100 classes offered over 1,000 registered students 3 age groups: 9-11, 12-14, and 15-16

  8. Transition Focused Recruitment • 8th Grade Tours • Class Presentations (Tech Center Programs/College Credit) • Explore Test Interpretations • OKCIS Training

Traditional Recruitment PLAN Test Interpretations Assist high school counselors in giving/explaining Explore Test results Mini-Tech Fairs Set up booths at high school common areas and talk with students about programs, college credit, and programs of study Sophomore Tech Tours Sophomore classes from partner high schools visit campus for a tour and students observe classes and talk with MNTC students

  10. Professional Development • Teacher Workshops: (Off-Contract Stipends) • Counselor focused topics: Accountability & Legal / Ethical Issues- Dr. Carolyn Stone (This year Cyber Bullying)
