  2. Navigation RECORD Pause, Play Stop, Rewind & Fast forward Input line (internal mic/external mic) Output (computer speakers or external) Enlarge/reduce Timeframe (seconds) Before you start: • Check that Audacity can ’hear’ your microphone – click ‘Click to Start Monitoring’ • If the Green Bar appears when you speak Audacity can hear you • If not double check you have the correct microphone selected (Input) Scroll bar

  3. Audio Tracks Select Button Delete track End of sound clip Sound wave Mute track The select button enables you to: • Chose where to start listening from along the time line • Highlight areas that you want to DELETE (you can hit delete once it is selected) This is a MONO track – you will hear the sound played through both speakers (Left and Right).

  4. It’s possible to have multiple tracks – they will play at the same time if they overlap. Multiple Tracks • This tool lets you: • Move clips along a timeline • Move clips between tracks • Change the order of clips

  5. Envelope Tool Volume (also called amplitude) Control points Editing your sound clip These tracks are Stereo – if you edit the LEFT the RIGHT will automatically be edited. Most imported music will be like this. • This ‘Envelope Tool’ enables you to: • Create control ‘points’ along a sound track • Manipulate the volume between control points – fade in/fade out

  6. Further Editing Splitting a clip will let you divide the sound clip (at the position you have selected on the timeline). You can then move the separated clips apart. This can be found under ‘Clip Boundaries’ = SPLIT

  7. Further Editing Just like in Microsoft Word or Excel you can use COPY and PASTE functions. Use the Selection tool to highlight the area of the track you want to copy. Use the EDIT Menu to COPY, DUPLICATE, PASTE You can then use this tool to change the order of the newly pasted clips

  8. The EFFECTS Menu has many options – the most common one you will use is AMPLIFY. AMPLIFY allows you to: • Increase the volume of a selected area of your clip (+ amplify) • Decrease the volume of a selected area (- amplify) Explore the other Effects! Further Editing Importing music / other audio files (MP3) is possible using the File, IMPORT menu.

  9. SAVE YOUR PROJECT! Always remember to SAVE your project • Use the File, Save Project As the first time you do this – you can select the name and where you save it. • This will save as a .aup file type – you can come back and edit this project again • This is not an audio file that you can play – you will need to export your audio to play

  10. Exporting To create an AUDIO FILE that you can play on another device you need to use the File, EXPORT Menu. You can then select where you want to save your AUDIO FILE (on to a USB drive/SD card/mobile phone). Save your AUDIO FILE as an MP3
