  2. Global Issue • Energy Overuse The overuse of energy would cause : • Increase risk in climate change • Reduction in supply • Higher energy cost The overuse of energy would cause the amount of energy supply to decrease and would increase overall the cost of electricity. In long term, the demand of energy would also burden to the already threatened environmental areas.

  3. How does it help?! • Uses only 25% the energy of incandescent lamps, still providing the same amount of lighting lasting 10 times longer. • Reduced energy usage. • No large amount of energy demand.

  4. Positive Affects • Health • Enhanced Mood - Can be used as a treatment for a depression disorder. That’s related to the continuous darkness of winter. SAD (seasonal affective disorder) - Phototherapy - Imitates the natural light of spring and summer. - Used to produce UV rays (electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength shorter than the light visible). • Improved Skin Conditions - phototherapy improves the skin condition. - The shedding of skin causes the buildup of scales that itches. - Through light therapy, sometimes combined with oral and tropical medication, the shedding of skin cells are able to be slowed down.

  5. Positive Affects • Environmental • Reduced Air Pollutants - Reduced energy usage = less electricity needed from coal-burning power plants. - less sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide gets released to the air, less cause for acid rain. - Less coal-burning power plants releasing radioactive pollutants into the air. • Reduced Green House Gas - Green house gas, produced by fossil fuel power plants, would be decreased. - Some scientists believe that reducing green house gas is one way to reduce global climate change. • Reduced Fossil Fuel Use - Reducing the demand for fossil fuel use.

  6. Negative Affects • Eye Strain due to Fluorescent Lights • Getting a blurred vision and headache because its much brighter than incandescent light. - The bulb gets powered by ballasts. • Ballasts having to produce enough energy, the bulb flickers when it warms up. This light flickering could cause eye strain. - Using high-frequency electronic ballasts instead of the old magnetic ballasts. = The electricity gets converted into high-frequency voltage. Flickering would be too fast to be noticed by human eyes.

  7. Factors • Economic - Not paying too expensive on the electricity bill, because of using less amount of energy. • Environmental • Less energy needs to be created from fossil fuel power plants, which releases dangerous chemicals to the environment. • Social - Help with the health of the people.
