  2. Whatis CIEDES Foundation? Private Foundation without lucrative objectives and integrate for the principals institutions and entities of the city (1994). Main objective: Promotion of all interesting activities for the socioeconomic and sustainable development of Malaga. Unique entity in Spain. President: Mayor (now thirst) Vice-president: President of a bank Executive Vice-president: Malaga Municipal Council Member

MÁLAGA LESSONS OF STRATEGIC PLANNING • Importance of a city model maintained over time. • Methodological flexibility and innovation: urban empathy. • Clear and defined stakes for projects and metropolitan infrastructure. • Acceptance and consensus of political parties and society: steps for managing governance. • Ongoing review of the direction of the city and definition of new directions.

  6. CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STRATEGIES OF THE NETWORK AND KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE. Rapid changes in our cities and our environment, scarcity of resources, crisis of governance… Networks helps us to: • Benchmarking (applying in our cities what others do with the necessary adaptations). • Acquire skills and knowledge to move forward in our daily work and in our future designs. • Create synergies in local context (public-private cooperation) and in distant context (alliances between cities).

  7. MALAGA ROLE IN THE KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER CENTRE. Identify best practices of strategic planning methodology and processes derived from the same. Innovation. HOW TO WORK? Two meetings with partners and cities of interest:(Al Fayhaa, Sfax, Lyon, Marsella, Barcelona, Turin, Genova, Tetouan, Chaouen). • 1est meeting: setting up working groups and defining issues. • Virtual Working Groups (good leaders). • 2nd meeting: sharing conclusions and publication of reports.

  8. MALAGA ROLE IN THE KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER CENTRE. ISSUES OF WORKING GROUPS • Strategic Project Management: the plan as a tool for economic, social and environmental transformation. • Thinking the cities/territories: new analysis and tendencies. • Monitoring, evaluation and reformulation of strategic plans (indicators, broad scorecards, econometric methods, expectatives of citizens, etc.) • Governance tools: participation and civic engagement (permanent structure of botton-up participation). • Complementary of territories: networks of Knowledge.

Examples • Geneve (Italy): Strategic Plan of Energetic Technology : Smart Geneve City; “La gestione della città”: Il Programma di innovazione e miglioramento dei processi di funzionamento dell’Ente. • Roma 2020 (Italy): L’occasione della candidatura olimpica. • Turnn (Italy): 2º Metropolitan Strategic Plan for innovation and knowledge. • Al Fayhaa (Lebanon): Sustainable Development Strategy (2008-2010). • Sfax (Tunisia): Integration of coastal management with urban strategy (2006-2008) and Great Sfax Strategy for Sustainable Development 2016. • Aleppo (Syria): Participation of stakeholders in the Old City Rehabilitation Project.

MALAGA ROLE IN THE KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER CENTRE. • Damascus (Syria): Urban Upgrading Strategy of Rief Damascus 2010- 2011 (informal settlements). • Tirana (Albany): Local Economic Development (LED) strategy with integration of informal settlements (2009-2010). • Tetouan (Morocco): Tetouan Local Development Plan. • Alexandria (Egiypt): Integrated action plan for the development of Lake Maryut Zone. • INTERREG III B “C2M”: Integration of the waterfront in the historic center” (Génova, Málaga, Barcelona, Marsella, Lyon, Sevilla) • CAT MED: Mediterranean Sustainable Cities (Tesalónica, Marsella, Turín, Atenas, Génova, Roma, Barcelona y Málaga). • SHAMS: Sustainable Human Activities in Mediterranean Urban Activities (continuation of MED ACT).
