  1. Missouri Wineries

  2. Missouri is a state that enjoys all four seasons in their totality. This climate makes the perfect atmosphere for growing and cultivating wine.

  3. In fact, there are over 92 distinct Missouri wineries in operation throughout the state. Wine is produced in 5 unique regions throughout the state.

  4. These include the Northwest Region, Central Region, Southwest Region, Southeast Region, and the Northeast Region. Each location cultivates different types of fruit and eventually its unique selection of wine.

  5. History of Missouri Wineries Missouri has been producing wine for over 200 years, and by the mid 1880s Missouri vineyards were producing more wine than any other state in the nation.

  6. However, that success came to an abrupt halt once prohibition was enacted. Much of the land used for wine cultivation was destroyed, and Missouri wineries were put almost completely out of business.

  7. Today, wineries in Missouri have bounced back with vengeance, and the state is once again leading the way for wine manufacturing in the heartland.

  8. Missouri Wine Varieties Because of several contributing climate factors, Missouri vineyards can produce an abundance of fruit varieties. These include Native American grapes, French-American grape hybrids, Chambourcin, and Catawba.

  9. Because of this diverse fruit production, wineries in Missouri bottle everything from pink semi-sweet rose wines to full bodied red wines. The range of Missouri wine contributes to the success of its industry inside and outside of the state.

  10. Take a tour of one of the many Missouri wineries to learn more about their history and to taste the unique flavors of their harvest.

  11. You will be amazed at the incredible selection of Missouri wineries available for touring and tasting. Check out our list below to find the perfect winery for your vacation and stay in the Show Me state.
