  1. Top Tips for Getting Through Tattoo Removal Are you feeling slightly uneasy about your upcoming tattoo removal after reading “experiences” by friends of friends who once knew someone on the internet that got a tattoo removed and it was the worst pain ever? Don’t worry, pain is a very individual sensation and laser tattoo removal might be completely different for you than it is for the next person. Generally, the pain during the procedure is compared to a burning sensation which some people don’t find too painful whereas others are more sensitive. Before the laser tattoo removal appointment During the days before your first appointment (and all the following appointments), it’s a good idea to eat a balanced, healthy diet, avoid too much alcohol and don’t take any aspirin. On the day of the appointment itself, make sure you’re well rested and well hydrated. It’s also important to have something to eat before you start the treatment. During the removal session Stay positive! There have been studies that if you’re in a positive frame of mind, you’re more tolerable to pain in general. You might have the tattoo area treated with numbing creams or gels, so you shouldn’t even feel the laser at all. Remember, the laser only destroys the ink itself, not the surrounding skin cells. So even if you feel a slight burning sensation, it’s nothing to worry about. After the laser treatment You can take some ibuprofen to keep the after-treatment pain as low as possible. This also helps to prevent swelling and bruising of the surrounding areas of your tattoo. Your tattoo will still be a wound, so keep it protected from the sun by wearing a t-shirt or rashie to the beach. Treat it like you would treat a sunburn but without the after sun lotion. Additionally, make sure you drink a lot of water for at least a week after the appointment. Drink slightly more than you usually do as this can help your body to flush out the ink.

  2. Take some time off before your next treatment. Some people go every few weeks, some people wait up to 4 months for their next appointment. It’s completely up to you if you want the process to be over and done with as quickly as possible or if you’d rather take it a little bit slower.
