Homeowners’ think about their electric utility ~6 mins/month, yet REV success hinges on time to … Ensure expectations initially set from new product and service offerings are realized Understand what NYS customers know about and want out of their electric system Develop an education curriculum that effectively fills the knowledge gaps so that they are receptive to new product and service offerings Perform market research so that a sales pitch for these new product and service offerings can be effective LBNL – Smart Grid Investment Grant Consumer Behavior Study Analysis

  3. REV promotes wide array of power system services provided by customers but… • Power system service definitions dictate performance and infrastructure requirements as well as the financial incentives for both end-use customers as well as program providers to pursue them

Pilots give utilities a chance to learn what works to ensure roll-outs are successful Pilot/Study System Wide 7,500 customers opt-in to take service under TOU and Variable TOU rates; some received IHD and/or PCT 90,000+ customers (10% of Res. Class) enrolled after 2 years, with goal of 120,000 (15%) within 3 years 6,500 customers opt-in or opt-out of taking service under TOU, TOU w/ CPP and Block w/ CPP rates; some received IHDs Standard residential rate design to change for all customers from inclining block to time-of-use in 2018 LBNL – Smart Grid Investment Grant Consumer Behavior Study Analysis
