About me… • I moved to Virginia from New Jersey! • Dual Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary and Special Education from Slippery Rock University. • Beginning a Master program in Educational Leadership with George Mason University. • 3rdyear teaching at Stone Hill Middle School! • I’ve taught 6th grade Science all 3 years, and last year I also taught 7th grade Science. • I’m getting married over Spring Break this year ( I promise to wait on my name change)

  5. Class Information • Daily Science Supplies: • Science Binder • 12 dividers • Agenda • Pencil/Colored Pen/Highlighter • Colored Pencils/Scissors

  6. Classroom Routines • Learning Targets- Unit Calendar • Agenda- write down homework/hall passes • Notes- graphic organizers (GO) • Practice- Now It’s Your Turn (NIYT) • Labs- one or two per unit Today I will be able to… Did I get to my target?

Science Assessments • Diagnostic (does NOT calculate in to grade) • Pre-test assessments • Graded using grading scale (100-0) • Formative (does NOT calculate in to grade) • Multiples types of checkpoints (Exit tickets, entrance tickets, warm ups) • Graded using Learning Progression Scale (4, 3, 2, 1) • Summative (DOES calculate in to grade) • Assessments used to demonstrate mastery of learned concepts (DOKs) • Graded using grading scale (100-0)

  8. 6th Grade Science Re-teaching & Retesting • Retake Policy– • Must complete a Retake Checklist before taking the test. • Items on checklist may include: • Parent signature • Flashcards made • Meet with teacher for re-teaching • Student MUST show they are READY!

  11. Grading Scale • A+ = 98-100 • A = 93-97 • A- = 90-92 • B+ = 87-89 • B = 83-86 • B- = 80-82 • C+ = 77-79 • C = 73-76 • C- = 70-72 • D+ = 67-69 • D = 63-66 • D- = 60-62 • F = 59 and below
