  1. Follow up on option 3c: New Evacuation GalleryWork method, Schedule, Cost, Implications for CMS Contributions from BE -ABP -ASR -BI -CO DG -RP GS -SEM -ASE IT -CS PH -CMX TE -CRG -EPC -MPE EN -CV -EL -MEF -STI martin.gastal@cern.ch

  2. Method of work and draft schedule • Week 1 & 2 • CE set up time - impact on CMS only • Includes metallic platform installation, ventilation system for dust extraction, tooling installation, temporary power cables, dust screen. Loading platform martin.gastal@cern.ch

  3. Method of work and draft schedule • Week 1 & 2 • Removal of services in UJ56 – “Eau Brute” water piping (~1week if prepared), CV equipment (1week), BRAN gas bottles… martin.gastal@cern.ch

  4. Method of work and draft schedule • Week 3 & 4: • Excavation phase – Impact only on CMS – no work on the –Z end of the UXC55 • Removal of services in UJ56 – water piping, CV equipment… To UXC55 martin.gastal@cern.ch

  5. Method of work and draft schedule • Week 5& 6: • Excavation phase – Impact both on CMS and UJ56 Second crew To UXC55 martin.gastal@cern.ch

  6. Method of work and draft schedule • Week 7,8,9 & 10: • 4 weeks of lining - impact on both CMS and UJ56 • Shuttering, concrete pipe through the PX56, paint… martin.gastal@cern.ch

  7. Method of work and draft schedule • Week 11 and 12: • 2 weeks of clean up - impact on both CMS and UJ56 • Removal of metallic platform in UXC55 martin.gastal@cern.ch

  8. Method of work and draft schedule • Week 13 onwards: • Installation of blast door ~10kCHF • Installation of a sector door in new gallery (move from UJ561) • 1st draft estimate: ~60CHF mainly driven by software modification and commissioning • Installation of lighting • Modification of ventilation martin.gastal@cern.ch

  9. Additional considerations • Error margin on time estimates for CE work • +/-20%, • Potential sources of delay • Difficult dust management • Services not dismantled in time in UJ56 • Unforeseen access restrictions • Unexpected water inflow from PM54, unforeseen geological conditions martin.gastal@cern.ch

  10. Additional considerations • Error margin on cost estimates for CE work • 800,000CHF +/-30%, • Use of PM56: to be used for CE personnel access • Potential RP issues • S Roesler: The design should not compromise the non designated area status of the USC55, especially since the geometry would allow to add shielding • Getting simulations to back this statement would take 1 month of a fellow…. Once this gallery becomes part of the baseline solution, the resources for the necessary verification will be found, if necessary, with financial help by Christoph martin.gastal@cern.ch

  11. Impact on CMS • During the 2012 shutdown CMS will have to be fully open to allow the servicing of the PIX • -Z end draft sequence already very challenging. • 12 weeks of delay would have to be included. • Significant overhead martin.gastal@cern.ch

  12. Pros and Cons • Cons: • Non negligible cost • 12 weeks of delay on the CMS schedule • Significant disruption to the CMS Experimental area during work • Pros: • Faster and safer emergency evacuation • Allow using the UJ561 for R2E or upgrade projects • In line with initial and approved evacuation scheme (Christoph Schaefer) martin.gastal@cern.ch

  13. Reserve Slide J Bos PH-CMX 6.92m CV equipment To relocate for R2E BRAN Gas Can be moved martin.gastal@cern.ch

  14. Reserve Slide New blast door martin.gastal@cern.ch J Bos PH-CMX

  15. Reserve Slide • EN-EL work: ~ CHFM2.3 • Not including work to be done by other service groups contributing to the relocation of EN-EL equipment • GS-SEM work: • Escape gallery: < CHFM1 • Service ducts: CHF4,000/m • E.g: 15m link between UJ56 and bypass = CHF60,000 • Costs of fire doors, smoke detection, metallic structures, cooling and ventilation, re-commissioning still not assessed martin.gastal@cern.ch
