  10. Water landing • Is not a normal option • Can be dangerous • But, probably safer than to the forest or a clearing in the forest • The clearings may look green and nice from the air, but are NOT nice on the ground

  11. Experience • About 10 water landnings in Sweden the last 15 years • No serious injuries or damages • The glider have flown the next day in many cases

  12. Before landing • Call on the radio • Turn of master switch • Prepare mentally • Locate the seat belt lock • Locate the canopy emergency jettisson

  13. Where to land? • Deep enough • Along the shore • Down wind side of the lake

  15. How to land? • Gear down • Low speed, but main wheel first • Flaps in thermalling position • Airbrakes closed (if possible)

  17. After landing • You are not in a hurry • The glider floats • Open the canopy normally • Sit on top of the glider and think • Make a plan • Don’t swim with clothes on • Don’t try to swim with head wind
