Project aims • Identify a ranked list of priority topics related to the fundamentals of care. • Consider which topics are most feasible for national clinical audit and most likely to result in improvements in the quality and safety of patient care. • Identify links to existing information systems and to consider the most streamlined and cost effective approach to data collection.

  3. Project stages • Literature review • Key Stakeholders consultation -workshops • Key stakeholder consultation - e survey • Second key stakeholder consultation from stage 2 via e mail • Preparation of final report

  4. Workshops and e survey • Aim to enable a wide range of stakeholders to reflect their views about what topics can usefully be the subject of National Clinical Audit in a way that will support real improvements in care

  6. Challenges • How important is it to capture qualitative data in a national audit on these topics? • How could Observations of practice and staff attitudes and behaviours be integrated into a national audit? • What should the role of IT be in gathering data for national audit by nurses? • Would anonomysation of results make any difference to staff willingness to take part?
