  1. Partners in Batching Productivity with: • Q.iMPACT WebEx Session #1: • Matroller Backup and Recovery Procedures Mark Whitt, Mettler-Toledo Q.i Product Support Engineer Scott Haimerl, Mettler-Toledo Q.i Product Manager March 19, 2008

  2. WARNING!!! Backup and restore procedures should NOT be performed while a process is running!

  3. WHEN TO BACKUP? How often should a backup occur? • After a re-calibration. • After significant changes made to the PAC Database. • Before any maintenance procedures. • Frequently (once a week or more) if constant changes are made to the Matroller setup. • Monthly.

  4. WHICH FILES TO BACKUP? • JAGXAPC.DMT * • JAGXCAL.DMT * • JAGXSRAM.DMT • JAGXLIT.DMT • Any file with a “.BAS” extension, such as FILE1.BAS • Any file with a “.CPT” extension, such as FILE1.CPT * These files contain the critical configuration parameters for a Q.i, and are the MINIMUM that should be backed up. The other files need to be backed up if a JagBasic application is being used.

  5. WHAT ELSE SHOULD BE DONE? Know your cluster configuration! Should be written down or stored somewhere that it can be accessed during an emergency. The minimum you need to know for each unit is: > IP address > Subnet Mask > Gateway address.

  6. WHAT ELSE SHOULD BE DONE? - continued • Always cycle power after restoring DMT files! • Replace the battery in each Matroller once per year (probably can get two years out of one, but it’s not worth the trouble caused if it fails).

  7. HOW TO BACKUP? DMT_Controller Version 2 Best! • Verify Option • Command Line option for Automatic Backups • Extensive Help • Works on Q.i or JagXtreme! DMT_Controller Version 1 Good! • Verify Option Other FTP Utility • No verify Option Okay. Internet Explorer FTP Be Careful ! • No verify Option • Only copy one file at a time!

  8. For the rest of this Session… Our discussion will revolve around using DMT_Controller version 2, which can be downloaded at the following link: DMT_Controller V2.0.3 Install.zip A power point for how to use DMT_Controller version 1 can be found at the following link: DMT File Management.pps

  9. LIVE - ARCHIVE DEMONSTRATION • Demonstrate the following • Enter IP Addresses • Delete IP Addresses • GET a single file from a unit • GET ALL files from a unit • GET ALL files from ALL units

  10. COMMAND LINE BACKUP FEATURE A “Command Line” option exists in DMT_Controller version 2 that will automatically archive all of the files on all of the units specified in the IP Address Drop Down box. Intended for use from Control Systems that can schedule backups when the process is not running. Tip: Check the DMT_Controller log to see if a backup completed successfully.

  11. WHERE ARE THE FILES STORED? All files first come into the ‘Live’ directory. If the files are “good,” they are moved to their Archive Directory All actions performed, and errors encountered, are recorded in a LOG file

  12. WHEN IS A RESTORE REQUIRED? • Accidental Master Reset • Accidental load of incorrect DMT files • One or more setup parameters get corrupted or accidentally changed. • Battery Failure • Controller Card changed out** • Another option card added or changed out ** • Complete unit failure, need to replace with a spare** ** A Master Reset is required under these conditions

  13. HOW DO I RESTORE FROM SCRATCH? • First, perform a Master Reset if required (see previous slide). • Master Reset • Cycle power • Wait for the upper display to show all 8’s. • Press and hold the “Cal” button until “Master Reset!” is shown in the lower display.

  14. HOW DO I RESTORE FROM SCRATCH? - CONTINUED... • Enter the IP address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway address via the front panel: • Press the ‘Function’ key to go into setup mode. • Press “Select” until the “Network” option is displayed, and then press “Enter” • Press “Select” to scroll to the IP address, enter the correct one for your unit and then press “Enter”. • Enter the Subnet Mask and then press “Enter”. • Enter the Gateway address and then press “Enter”. • Press the “ESC” key until “Exit Setup?” is displayed, and then press “Enter”. • Wait for the terminal to reset. - Function - Select - Enter - Escape

  15. HOW DO I RESTORE FROM SCRATCH? - CONTINUED... • Make sure that all units in the cluster are running the same version of firmware

  16. RESTORING FROM SCRATCH - CONTINUED... • Download the DMT files. Checking the “Turn on Verification” checkbox causes the program to: • Verify that the firmware version used to create the DMT files is the same that currently exist in the Q.i. • Verify that the IP address of the destination Q.i matches the IP address contained in the JAGXSRAM.DMT file. • Verify that the destination unit is a Q.i (if it isn’t, then the JAGXAPC.DMT file is prevented from being sent). • Verify that the DMT files were properly downloaded by uploading a new copy of each file after the download and comparing them to the archived copies. • Cycle Power on all units!

  17. JUST TO BE SAFE . . . • Manually confirm the settings for each unit. • Download the Database from the Master terminal to all of the slaves.

  18. SUMMARY OF RESTORE PROCEDURE • Make sure that the process is NOT running! • Perform a Master Reset if required. • Enter the IP address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway address via the front panel. • Make sure that all units in the cluster are running the same version of firmware. • Download the DMT files – use the verify option. • Cycle Power on all units! • Manually confirm the settings for each unit. • Download the Database from the Master terminal to all of the slaves.

  19. MY LICENSE IS GONE ! NOW WHAT ? ? ? • Reasons that licensing might go away • Controller Card swapped out. • DMT files sent to wrong Matroller. • Power Cycle with a Dead Battery • Master Reset performed on a unit. • Licensing Gremlins. Version A.0 is coming!
